When progressed enough in the main story, you'll be approached before a night shift at Bancho Sushi by the Fellow Alchemist. He'll reveal he lost his magic cauldron in the sea and requests your help in recovering it. However, you can only find it during a night dive as that's the only time it glows. The Alchemist will also note he saw that its glow sitting around a broken, wooden boat. When doing this dive, you'll have to end your dive session once you bring it up to the surface/exit, so make sure you do anything else you want first before getting the cauldron. When ready, go do a night dive, where it's around the center area of the map, guarded over by a Whitetip Reefshark. However, the cauldron in question can't simply be put in your inventory: you'll have to carry it like a heavy rock, all the way back to the surface. As you might have guessed, there will be quite a few hostile fish on your way up if they were not handled beforehand. Note also that, if you get hit, Dave will drop the cauldron but you can usually grab it back quickly before it falls. Otherwise, it'll fall down until it lands on any sea floor or ledge below it. Once out of the water with it, head to the restaurant and the Alchemist will appear, thankful you found it. He'll then reward you with the Magic Mortar, which you can use to make special potions and baits for use during dive sessions. While that completes the quest, be on the lookout as the next day, the Mushroomer will appear to introduce a new ingredient, the Rainbow Cap.
